Four games were played last night, with the winner in each scoring 7 runs or more. It’s definitely been a hitter’s league this year.
In fact, the record for teams in games in which they score 3 or less runs this season is 5-49, for a .093 winning percentage. This is the lowest by far since I started tracking the stat in 2014. (Scoring 7 or more runs? 60-13, .822 winning percentage. Oh the fun stats I have around here…)
Results
- Charlottesville 15, Staunton 7 (Pointstreak did not work for this game, but Steve Cox graciously sent some of the top performers my way.)
- Covington 8, Waynesboro 6
- Strasburg 7, Harrisonburg 5
- Front Royal 12, New Market 4
Hitter(s) of the Day
Sometimes the choice is obvious; sometimes the choice is difficult; sometimes the choice is impossible. Today, it’s impossible, so we have two hitters of the day:
- Andrew Burden, Front Royal, from Piedmont College. Andrew went 4-5, with 3 runs, 5 RBIs, a double, and 2 home runs. He’s hitting 365/441/673 in 52 at-bats for the Cards this summer. Andrew was great for Piedmont this spring, when he hit 405/514/571 in 168 at-bats.
- Dominic D’Alessandro, Charlottesville, from George Washington. Dominic went 5-6, with 2 runs, 5 RBIs, and 2 doubles. This was his second game driving in 5 runs; he had 5 RBIs on June 12th as well. Dominic raised his batting average 58 points in this one game; he’s now 19-60 this summer (.317). He hit 318/394/544 in 195 at-bats this spring for GW.
