Results From Tuesday, July 3

All five games were played last night, with two low scoring games, and three higher scoring affairs. I’m leaning towards recognizing more players rather than less, so we’ll have two hitters and two pitchers of the day today. (Especially since we only have one game on the schedule tonight!)

Results

  • Purcellville 4, Harrisonburg 3
  • Strasburg 9, Woodstock 7
  • Charlottesville 8, Covington 2 (Tom Sox retake first place in the South)
  • Front Royal 2, Winchester 0
  • Waynesboro 18, New Market 7 (Whoa- 25 runs, 24 hits, 7 doubles…)

Hitter(s) of the Day

  • First of all, we have Waynesboro’s Chase Cheek, who won his second HOD with last night’s performance against New Market (won on June 22). Chase, from Duke, went 5-5, with 3 runs, 3 RBIs, 2 doubles, and a triple. He’s now hitting a robust 432/449/608 in 74 at-bats in the VBL. He had only 19 at-bats for the Blue Devils this spring.
  • Secondly (he batted second, too, as did Cheek), we have New Market’s Andrew Eyster, from Santa Fe on his way to South Carolina. Andrew also went 5-5, with a run, double, and home run. Last night was his second HOD as well, as he won on June 19th after going 4-5. Andrew is laying waste to this league, slashing 491/565/830 (!!), with 15 runs, 19 RBIs, 6 doubles, 4 home runs, and a 7/5 BB/K ratio in 53 at-bats. Andrew hit 412/476/745 for Santa Fe this spring in 204 at-bats.
