Like another Justin before him (Showalter), this Justin is also a local kid, having grown up in Hamilton, Virginia, just east of Purcellville. Also like Showalter, Justin Ager had an excellent summer in the Valley League.
A 6-foot-4 sophomore righthander from Yale, Justin pitched in 7 games, 6 as the starter:
Pur | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | BAVG | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 2.48 | 2 | 0 | 7 | 6 | 32.7 | 21 | 12 | 9 | 20 | 26 | 0.178 | 1.254 | 5.5 | 7.2 |
Among pitchers surveyed for this list, Justin finished 6th in ERA and 4th in batting average against. Oddly (or awesomely, depending on your perspective), the Cannons won every single game he appeared in. He was ATVL’s pitcher of the day once, and his best start was on July 7th against Woodstock, when he threw 5 2/3 innings while allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, and struck out 6.
Like many pitchers that appear in the Valley over the summer, Justin was most likely in the VBL to get some innings and experience, as he didn’t pitch very much for Yale in 2018 and did not pitch at all in 2017:
Yale | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 6.75 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 4.0 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 5 | 2 | 2.250 | 11.3 | 4.5 |
