Our #5 reliever is Illinois-Springfield’s Trent Sidwell, who pitched for the Winchester Royals this summer…. and is a pretty gregarious young man.
I try not to be creepy, but I used to play baseball myself, and I enjoy being able to hear the dugout banter from time to time. During 2018’s All-Star game, it was hard not to hear Trent in the North’s dugout. The 6-foot-2, 170 pound righthander kept up a running commentary throughout much of the festivities, and he was funny.
Well, the sidearmer, in addition to keeping his teammates loose, had an excellent summer on the mound for the Royals. Check out his stats:
Win | ERA | W | L | G | SV | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | BAVG | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 1.01 | 0 | 1 | 16 | 5 | 17.7 | 11 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 12 | 0.180 | 0.791 | 1.5 | 6.1 |
Play | 18.00 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2.0 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 0.286 | 2.500 | 18.0 | 9.0 |
In the regular season, Trent finished 5th in ERA, 7th in batting average against, 2nd in WHIP, and 4th in BB/9. He also pitched an inning in the aforementioned All-Star game. Before the All-Star game, in fact, Trent had pitched 12 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run.
In college ball, the junior hasn’t seen much action at Illinois just yet:
Ill | ERA | W | L | G | SV | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 0.00 | 0 | 0 | 7 | 0 | 6.3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 7 | 0.317 | 1.4 | 10.0 |
He also threw 5 2/3 innings in 2017, but complete statistics from that year were unavailable.
Congratulations for your excellent 2018 season in Winchester, Trent!
