Our 3rd best reliever in the 2018 Valley League season, Front Royal’s Matt Blair, got his first taste of college baseball this summer, and if the results are any indication of his future, then he has a bright one.
A 6-foot-3, 215 pound righthander from Mercer, Matt redshirted his first year in college, but that didn’t stop him from dominating in Front Royal.

Among pitchers on this list, Matt finished 4th in ERA, 2nd in batting average against, 7th in WHIP, 4th in K/9, and was named 2nd Team All-Valley. Matt gave up earned runs in only two of his regular season appearances, and had two different stretches of 9 shutout innings in a row, from June 10 through July 3rd, and July 7th through July 26th.
