Another former Valley Leaguer off to an excellent start this spring is Bethune-Cookman’s Brandon Wilkes (Staunton 2018).
Pulling double duty for the Wildcats, Brandon is excelling in both roles. At the plate, he’s hitting 500/579/1.000 in 16 at-bats, with 3 runs, 7 RBIs, a whopping 5 doubles, and 1 home run. On the mound, he’s 1-0, 2.25, with 1 save, 3 hits allowed, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched. He leads (or is tied for the lead) his team in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, doubles, home runs, win, saves, and earned run average. Wow!
He’s done most of his batting just this last week, and his 8-15, 3 runs, 7 RBIs, 5 doubles and 1 home run performance earned him the MEAC Player of the Week award.
Brandon had just one official at-bat for the Braves last summer… and he tripled. On the mound, he went 1-2, 4.35, with 6 saves, and 25 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings pitched.
Keep it up, Brandon!
