It might only be “old-timers” who remember when John Cable played in the Valley League for New Market back in 2016 (I guess that isn’t so long ago), but the young man is raking for Georgia. Cable actually graduated from New Orleans, and is attending Georgia as a graduate student… and I bet the Georgia coaches are glad he’s there.
Yesterday, Cable went 2-2 against Kentucky, with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, a double, and home run. He is now slashing 308/486/654 in 52 at-bats, with 13 runs, 18 RBIs, 6 doubles, 4 home runs, and a super 16/10 BB/K ratio. I’m curious to see if he’ll get drafted this year as a grad- it’s the same path Zach Neff (Waynesboro, also 2016) took to be drafted out of Mississippi State after graduating from Austin Peay.
Zion Pettigrew played in the Valley just last year (for Winchester), so we should all remember him (right?). He’s performing exceeding well for Kirkland Community College so far this spring. The sophomore middle infielder, as yet unsigned to a 4-year program, is hitting to the tune of 459/511/824 in 74 at-bats, with 32 runs, 31 RBIs, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, and a 9/9 BB/K ratio. He leads his squad in all three slash lines, runs, doubles, and RBIs.
Well done, guys!
Great to note John Cable’s current success with U. Ga. Many of the Rebels family rember his success July 2nd, 2016 at Harrisonburg – 3 home runs, and done in solo, 2-run, 3-run sequence! along with a Ks and F9. Inspite of Cable’s prodigious productivity, and the Rebels out-hitting Harrisonburg, 15-12, the Turks won, 14-8.
