Well, it doesn’t roll off the tongue or have the historical significance (yet) quite like “Tinker to Evers to Chance,” but three former Valley Leaguers, JD Mundy, Andrew Szamski, and Brandon Wilkes, played very well yesterday.
First of all, JD Mundy (Covington 2018) went 3-4 for Radford, with 3 runs, 2 home runs, and 3 RBIs. He’s now hitting 276/385/559 in 170 at-bats, with 33 runs, 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 40 RBIs, and a 31/44 BB/K ratio. He leads Radford in slugging percentage, doubles, and home runs. JD was the second best hitter in the Valley League last summer.
Mundy’s teammate, Andrew Szamski (Staunton 2015-16), also had three hits. He went 3-5, with 2 runs, a double, and an RBI. He’s hitting 324/390/527, with 46 runs, 9 doubles, 9 home runs, 48 RBIs, and a 21/28 BB/K ratio in 188 at-bats this spring. He leads Radford in batting average, runs, hits, and RBIs.
Brandon Wilkes (Staunton 2018) returned to the mound yesterday for Bethune-Cookman, and fired two clean innings, allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and striking out 4 to earn his 5th save. He’s now 2-0, 2.30 in 31 1/3 innings, with those 5 saves, a 1.09 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts.
Nice job to all!
