Alas, the rain begins already.
Poor Strasburg had its home opener rained out, which is never a good sign. Unsurprisingly, New Market’s game was rained out too.
Well, such are the issues in a league that is as close together as this one.

Hitter of the Day
No one should be surprised that the hitter of the day comes from the 18-run, scoreboard-bursting team performance by the Charlottesville Tom Sox. In fact, it’s Charlottesville’s Cayman Richardson, from the University of Virginia, who went 4-5, with 4 runs scored, 2 RBIs, a triple, and a hit-by-pitch. Cayman hit 270/328/356 in 163 at-bats for the Cavs this spring.

Our pitcher of the day is Harrisonburg’s Jacob Ferris, from Eastern Kentucky. Jacob, making his Valley League debut, threw 7 shutout innings, and allowed only 5 hits, 0 walks, and struck out 8 to earn the win and a game score of 75 (the highest of the year so far). Jacob struck out 60 batters in 65 2/3 innings this spring.
