This was…. well, this was something else. Four games played, a total of 90 runs scored. Eleven home runs, as well, after the previous high for a day was seven. The Turks led the Braves 12-1 with three outs to go… and 12-4 with one out to go…. and lost. (Eli Davis, Andrew Czech, and Devon Adams hit three consecutive home runs to tie it.) Wow.

Hitter of the Day

As you might imagine, Brilliant Reader, this award could go to quite a number of players- most of whom would have won easily on any other night. On this night, the winner is Strasburg’s Brandon Henson, from VCU, who went 4-4, with 5 runs, 2 RBIs, a walk, double, and home run. He’s now 7-18 on the season, with a 389/450/667 slash line. For VCU this spring, he hit 269/333/463 in 134 at-bats.

Even on this hitter-heavy day, there were a few good performances. The pitcher of the day is Woodstock’s Justin Walton, from Norfolk State, who threw 5 shutout innings last night, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 7. He earned the win and a game score of 69. He’s now 1-0, 3.85, with 8 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched this summer for the Bandits.
