In a very busy day of Valley League baseball, seven games were played, including a record setting game and two doubleheaders:

Hitter of the Day

The hitter of the day crossed home plate 5 times yesterday, including on his own walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 9th inning. That would be Charlottesville’s Kirby McMullen, from Florida, who is back for another summer in the Valley. Kirby went 3-5, with 5 runs, 2 RBIs, a walk, and the home run. This was Kirby’s second game of the summer (he’s 3-9 so far).

Pitcher of the Day

The pitcher of the day is a repeat winner; Harrisonburg’s Jacob Ferris won the award on June 2nd as well. Last night against Front Royal in game one of their doubleheader, the righthander from Eastern Kentucky threw all seven innings, allowing only 3 hits, 1 unearned run, and 1 walk while striking out 7. He eanred the win and a game score of 75. Now, over three starts this summer, Jacob is 2-0, 0.47, with only 3 walks to 20 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.
