Six games were played last night thanks to the Winchester-Woodstock doubleheader. An extra inning game, two walk-offs, and it seems the pitching is beginning to reassert dominance… in part thanks to the first no-hitter of the season!

Pitcher of the Day
This one is a no-brainer: the pitcher of the day is Strasburg’s Gene Hurst, from Samford, who threw 5 perfect innings, with 7 strikeouts, against Front Royal last night! Gene is now 1-1, 0.60, with 15 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched this summer. His relievers, Brian Coffey, Evan Rathburn, and Eric Sottile, deserve mention as well, as they finished off the no-hitter for the Express. Coffey struck out 2 in 1 inning; Rathburn struck out 6 in 2 innings; Sottile struck out the side in the 9th to end it. If you’re scoring at home, that’s 18 strikeouts in a 9-inning game!
