The major league playoffs begin tonight with the National League wild card game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals.
While there is only one former Valley Leaguer who might appear in that game, there are seven more on the other playoff-bound squads. (And these guys might not be on the playoff roster, but they were all with the major league club at the end of the 2019 regular season.)
- Milwaukee Brewers: Cory Spangenberg (Winchester 2010)
- Houston Astros: Will Harris (Staunton 2003), Chris Devenski (Woodstock 2011)
- Minnesota Twins: Randy Dobnak (Front Royal 2015)
- New York Yankees: Brett Gardner (New Market 2003-04)
- Tampa Bay Rays: Emilio Pagan (Harrisonburg 2010), Ryan Yarbrough (Luray 2012), and Michael Brosseau (Waynesboro 2015)
- The Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, and Oakland A’s do not have any former VBLers who could appear in the postseason
Will one of these young men make waves like Daniel Murphy (Luray 2004-05) did with the New York Mets in 2015?

Fascinating – and timely. Thanks, John.
