Hitter of the Day

On June 14, 2016, Waynesboro’s Tanner Poole went 5-5 against Front Royal, with two runs, a walk, home run, and two RBIs in the Generals’ 4-3 win. Poole was the league’s 3rd best hitter: In 41 games and 156 at-bats, he hit .333/.467/.558, with 49 runs scored, 27 RBIs, 52 hits, seven doubles, five triples, six home runs, 27 walks, and 21 stolen bases. He finished in the top eight in ten different hitting categories: 1st in runs scored, tied for 1st in triples, 2nd in on-base percentage, 3rd in hits and slugging percentage, tied for 3rd in walks and stolen bases, tied for 4th in home runs, tied for 7th in RBIs, and 8th in batting average. Poole played for Itawamba Community College for two years (hitting .366/.435/.580 in 262 at-bats), and then his last two for Mississippi State (where he hit .225/.293/.313 in 240 at-bats). He did not move on to pro ball.

Pitcher of the Day

On June 14, 2013, Charles Town’s Adam Parks threw six shutout innings against Aldie while allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out 11. He was the league’s 7th best pitcher, finishing the summer 4-3, 1.93, with a 0.952 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and 9.9 K/9 in 42 innings. After barely seeing the mound at Liberty, Parks was picked in the 33rd round of the 2014 MLB draft by the Texas Rangers, and went on to log 162 1/3 minor league innings from 2014 to 2018. He went a total of 7-11, 3.16 in those innings, with a 1.15 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9, and 10.8 K/9. He is no longer in pro ball.
