We’ve got one of the oldest pitchers in our bracket against one of the youngest today.
- Drew Granier pitched two sasons in Harrisonburg- 2009, when he was the 6th best starter in the league, and the following season, 2010- the one we will focus on here. A rising senior at Louisiana Monroe that summer, Granier threw a whopping 72 2/3 innings for the 2010 Turks, finishing 6-1, 2.97, with a 1.045 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9, and 10.4 K/9 (and three complete games). ATVL named him the 5th best starter in the league. After his senior year in 2011, Granier was drafted in the 32nd round by the Oakland A’s. He spent four years in the minors, topping out in Triple-A for a game in 2014. Overall, his career stats are 33-28, 3.80, with a 1.44 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9, and 8.7 K/9 in 499 2/3 total innings. After his release, he joined the independent Ottawa Champions in the Can-Am League, and started 15 games in 2015, going 4-6, 4.59, with 66 K’s in 80 1/3 innings.
- Seth Konkel came to Woodstock in 2019 after completing his eligibility at Paul D. Camp Community College. In eight games, five of them starts, Konkel finished 3-0, 2.48, with a 1.040 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9, 6.9 K/9, and .193 batting average against in 32 2/3 innings. He also started one game in the playoffs, and threw four shutout innings. ATVL named him the 6th best starter in the league. At Lee University this spring, Konkel appeared in seven games, covering 13 1/3 innings, and went 1-1, 4.05, with a 1.22 WHIP before sports were shut down. He is listed on Lee’s roster for 2021.
