After a little break from the action, we’re back with the next matchup!
- Adam Parks defeated Front Royal’s Ramon Miranda in the first round, 69.2% to 30.8% (13 votes). His writeup: “Adam Parks came to Charles Town in 2013 after his freshman year at Liberty. He was ATVL’s 6th best starter that year after putting up a stat line of 4-3, 1.93, with a 0.952 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and 9.9 K/9 in 42 innings. His best start was on June 29, 2013, when he fired a seven-inning no-hitter against Woodstock while striking out 13. He returned to Liberty in 2014, and for some reason, just couldn’t get time on the mound… which made it all the more interesting when the Texas Rangers picked him in the 33rd round in the 2014 draft. Parks then embarked on a four-year pro career, going 7-11, 3.16, with a 1.15 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9, and 10.8 K/9 in 162 1/3 innings. I think he had a real shot to make the major leagues, but ran into some injury trouble in 2017.”
- Vince Voiro came to Woodstock in 2010, and was ATVL’s 15th best starter that summer. He returned in 2011, and put in a top-notch season, going 4-2, 2.04, with a 1.187 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9, and 9.4 K/9 in 57 1/3 innings pitched. He was ATVL’s 2nd best starter, becoming the 10th pitcher to repeat on ATVL’s top players lists. Voiro returned to Penn for an excellent senior season in 2012, going 5-2, 2.45, with a 1.27 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9, and 8.1 K/9 in 66 innings. He was drafted that summer by the Oakland A’s in the 15th round, and went on to pitch in pro ball in both 2012 and 2013, finishing his career at 8-7, 3.65, with a 1.43 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9, and 7.2 K/9 in 138 pro innings.
