Welcome to a new week… and something else new, too. But the matchup:

  • Junior Delatorre defeated Logan Walters 55.9% to 44.1% in the first round, with a whopping 299 votes cast. Delatorre might need those 300 votes if/when he faces off with a Strasburg Express pitcher, but in the meantime, his writeup: “Humberto “Junior” Delatorre played in Aldie in both 2013 and 2014 (but we’ll focus on 2014), coming from USC Beaufort. In eight starts that summer, Delatorre went 3-3, 2.17, with a 1.107 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9, and 9.1 K/9 in 49 2/3 innings pitched. In addition, his .192 batting average against led the league. ATVL named him the third best starter from that season. In his college career at Beaufort, Delatorre went a total of 17-8, 3.11 in 257 1/3 innings pitched, with 104 walks and 200 K’s. He did not go on to pitch in pro ball.”
  • Jake Harper (Front Royal) was the league’s second best starting pitcher in 2014. He finished with the following stats: 5-0, 2.22, 1.006 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9, 8.0 K/9, .215 batting average against, and 52 2/3 innings. He led the league in WHIP, and finished third in innings pitched. He actually went up to the Cape at the end of the summer, and threw 1 2/3 innings for Cotuit. Retuning to St. Joseph’s in 2015, Harper went 1-3, 3.81, with a 1.306 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9, and 8.1 K/9 in 56 2/3 innings. He was not drafted or signed by an MLB organization.
