After looking more in-depth at the 2012 Winchester Royals and 1995 Staunton in relation to runs scored, today we will take a look at the top 21 hit totals in the Valley League since 1994:

Notes

  • More than a third- eight!- of these guys played for the Winchester Royals. Luray, Staunton, Strasburg, and Waynesboro all have two entries, and Charlottesville, Woodstock, Charles Town, Haymarket, and Harrisonburg all have one. Front Royal, New Market, and Covington do not have any. What is it about Winchester hitters?
  • A crazy 13 of these guys were MVPs. So many, in fact, that I’m not going to list them. This is the highest total so far.
  • Stephen Kerr had “only” 50 hits for the Charles Town Cannons at the end of the regular season in 2014. In the playoffs, he went a ridiculous 20-39 to move all the way up to 14th place on this list.
  • Four of these guys played in the major leagues (Spangenberg, Michaels, Odom, Murphy). Eleven more played in the minors, including John Gragg, who actually was a pitcher in pro ball.
