Results, Hitter and Pitcher of the Day, Saturday June 12

Three of the five games were played on Saturday (and eights were wild, it appears):

Results

  • New Market at Winchester, PPD
  • Woodstock at Purcellville, PPD
  • Covington 8, Waynesboro 3
  • Strasburg 8, Front Royal 0
  • Charlottesville 8, Harrisonburg 5

Hitter of the Day

Today’s HOD is Strasburg’s Graham Crawford, from Pearl River on his way to Alabama Tuscaloosa (and NJCAA All-American), who went 2-5, with a run, double, home run, and two RBIs. He got his first two hits of the season last night, but because of his eye at the plate, he has a rather interesting .143/.429/.429 slashline after 14 at-bats.

Others of Note

  • Tommy Castillo, Covington: 2-4, two runs, home run, sacrifice fly, stolen base, two RBIs
  • Makenzie Pate, Charlottesville: 1-2, two walks, stolen base, two RBIs
  • Gehrig Ebel, Charlottesville: 2-4, two runs, walk, three stolen bases, RBI
  • Tripp McKinlay, Strasburg: 2-5, two runs, walk, two stolen bases, HBP, RBI

Pitcher of the Day

Our POD is Strasburg’s Donovan Burke, from JMU! Burke threw five shutout innings last night while allowing only one hit, walking two, and striking out eight. It was his second start this season; he’s now 1-1, 3.24, with 12 K’s in 8 1/3 innings pitched.

Others of Note

  • Cade Henry, Covington: Five innings, five hits, two runs, one earned, two walks, six K’s, win
  • Chance Vaught, Covington: Three shutout innings, no hits, three walks, four K’s
  • Trace Bright, Charlottesville: 3 2/3 innings, one hit, no runs, one walk, six K’s
  • Will Morrison, Charlottesville: Two innings, no hits, no runs, on walks, two K’s, save
  • William Carter, Harrisonburg: Two innings, no hits, no runs, no walks, three K’s
  • Braden Ostrander, Strasburg: Three innings, one hit, no runs, two walks, eight K’s (Eight of his nine outs were strikeouts!)

Today’s Games

  • Waynesboro at Winchester, 1 PM and 3 PM (Note time change!)
  • Staunton at Purcellville, 4 PM and 7 PM
  • Front Royal at Charlottesville, 5 PM and 7:30 PM
  • Harrisonburg at Woodstock, 5 PM and 7:30 PM
  • Covington at Strasburg, 5:30 PM and 8 PM

I have an insane idea for today…. but I’ll post on that in a little bit.
