After almost ten days of uninterrupted baseball, two games were postponed last night. The rain looks to be over at this point for our area, so hopefully with a little bit of work all games will go on as scheduled this evening!

  • Strasburg at Purcellville PPD
  • Woodstock at Winchester PPD
  • Waynesboro 14, Charlottesville 9- Generals move to 2.5 games behind Charlottesville in the South
  • Staunton 4, Covington 2- Staunton now three games ahead of Covington in the South (for fourth place)

Hitter of the Day

The HOD is Waynesboro’s Shawn Ross, from Faulkner, who went 3-4, with three runs scored, a walk, home run, stolen base, and two RBIs in only his third game in the VBL. Ross is now 5-12 in those three games. He may very well give the General lineup a boost, as he hit .330/.454/.648 with 16 home runs this spring in school.

Others of Note

  • Jack Hurley, Charlottesville: 2-3, three runs, RBI, walk, three stolen bases
  • Jackson Ross, Waynesboro: 2-4, two runs, RBI, double
  • Joey Rezek, Waynesboro: 2-4, run, three RBIs, triple
  • Kyle Merkle, Covington: 2-3, run, two RBIs, home run
  • Trendon Craig, Covington: 2-3, double
  • Joseph Holiga, Staunton: 2-3, run
  • Max Weller, Waynesboro: 2-3, run, double
  • Alex Arauz, Waynesboro: 2-4, run, RBI, stolen base

Pitcher of the Day

The POD, for the second time in a row (for him), is Staunton’s Chris Widger, from Rowan! Widger was the long man in yesterday’s game, coming in the game in the second inning and pitching five complete in the middle of the contest. He allowed four hits, two runs, no walks, and struck out seven to earn the win. Also POD on June 25, Widger is now 2-0, 2.11, with 13 K’s in 17 innings pitched.

Other of Note

  • Victor Loa, Covington: Three shutout innings, one hit, no walks, four K’s
