Moving on up the ladder, today we have the sixth best starting pitcher in the 2021 Valley League season- New Market’s Reed Mascolo!

Mascolo was an excellent rotation piece for the New Market squad. In 34 2/3 innings last summer, he went 4-1, 2.86, with a tiny .168 BAA, 1.066 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9, and 10.9 K/9. He finished tenth in the league in ERA, tied for eighth in innings pitched, fourth in strikeouts, fifth in BAA, sixth in WHIP, and tied for seventh in K/9. He was named both first team All-Valley, and the league’s Pitcher of the Year.

He had one of his best games on June 16 at Purcellville when he threw 6 2/3 innings while allowing four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out 10. On July 2, he limited the solid Winchester lineup to one hit and one run in 5 1/3 innings while walking five and striking out four. He earned wins in both of those contests.

Mascolo started his college career at Seton Hall, and was named to the Big East All-Academic team in 2020. He transferred to Wake Forest for 2021, and spent most of the season as one of the Deac’s mid-week starters. In 35 innings, he went 3-2, 4.37, with 34 hits, 13 walks, and 36 strikeouts.
