Our fourth best reliever from the 2021 Valley League season is no stranger to the Shenandoah Valley, given that his hometown is actually Charlottesville, and he played for Billy Wagner at Miller School during high school- it’s Jack Masloff, the 6-foot-2 lefthander from VCU.
Masloff appeared in nine games for Staunton in 2021, going 1-1, 2.28 in 19 2/3 innings, with four saves, a .174 BAA, 0.812 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9, and 10.1 K/9 (that’s from four walks and 22 strikeouts). Among pitchers surveyed for this list, he finished tenth in ERA, tied for seventh in innings pitched, sixth in BAA, second in WHIP, and second in BB/9. He also threw four innings in the playoffs, and went 1-0, 2.25.
His best two games were on June 22, against Waynesboro, when he threw three shutout innings, with two hits, no walks, and five strikeouts, and July 16, at Waynesboro, when he threw three shutout innings, with one hit, one walk, and four strikeouts.
In his first freshman season, in 2020, Masloff appeared in only four games for the Rams in Richmond, and in 2021, his second freshman year, he went 2-0, 5.89 in 18 1/3 innings, with 24 strikeouts.
