Add another alumnus to the list! Brendon Donovan, who played in New Market in 2016, was called up by St. Louis yesterday, and made his debut last night as a pinch runner for Yadier Molina.
Donovan was a seventh round pick out of South Alabama in 2018, after hitting .302/.456/.480 in his junior year, along with 17 doubles, five home runs, and a superb 50 walks against 33 strikeouts. He hit a combined .304/.399/.455 in 459 plate appearances at three levels in 2021, putting himself on the prospect map. This spring at Triple-A Memphis, Donovan hit .298/.385/.404 in 57 at-bats, with three doubles, one home run, and eight walks.
In the Valley in 2016, Donovan hit .314/.445/.512 in 86 at-bats, with eight doubles and three home runs. He walked and scored a run in his two plate appearances in the All-Star game.
Donovan is the first alum to make his MLB debut in 2022, and fifth overall in the past two seasons.

The most splendid kind of baseball news. Congrats Brendon! A six year journey since the 2016 Rebels. Great that he landed with a quality and storied franchise.
