Three games on tap last night:

  • New Market 12, Purcellville 2 (8 innings): The first six batters in the New Market lineup went a combined 13-27, with 12 runs, eight RBIs, two doubles, and a home run. With production like that…. New Market is 4-2, the Cannons are 2-4.
  • Charlottesville 5, Covington 2: Four Charlottesville relievers combined for 5 1/3 shutout innings while allowing only three baserunners, and the lineup worked eight walks against Lumberjack pitching. Charlottesville is 2-3; Covington falls to 3-1.
  • Staunton 7, Waynesboro 6: This one came down to bases loaded, two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Staunton’s Marty Neal struck out Tyler Borges to save it for Staunton. Staunton’s bullpen carried the day as well, with four pitchers throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings. Staunton is 2-3; the Generals fall to 2-2.
