Our 4th best reliever in the 2015 Valley League season is Sam McGovern, from Aldie and Valdosta State!
Sam was lights out for the Senators in this, their last season in the Valley (for now, I suppose. Who knows?). He went 2-1, 1.95, with 1 save, a 0.939 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9, and 7.5 K/9 in 12 games and 27 2/3 innings pitched. That’s a solid season.
In his college career, Sam started out at Washington College, a Division-III school in Maryland. As a freshman in 2013, Sam went 0-1, 7.77 in 24 1/3 innings, along with 43 hits, 11 walks, and 15 strikeouts. As a sophomore, he went 2-4, 10.12 in 26 2/3 innings. He gave up 43 hits again, walked 13, and struck out 13. As a junior in 2015, Sam went 2-3, 5.68, with 29 hits, 8 walks, and 13 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings.
Sam is now attending Valdosta State for his senior year. So far in 2016, he’s 0-0, 4.91 in 3 2/3 innings.
Congratulations on your excellent summer, Sam!
