After the summer leagues wrap up each year, Perfect Game publishes three teams, plus honorable mentions, of All-Americans covering all the leagues.

I believe there is an inherent conflict of interest with these lists, as PG sponsors its own league, but the lists are still worth checking out, especially since a couple current and former Valley Leaguers usually make the lists each year. Also, it’s worth noting that lists like this are almost impossible, as many, many players worthy of a notice are left off, which of course must happen when there are more than 20 summer leagues operating out there.

So, three players with connections to the Valley were named this year.

First of all, Garrett Cave (Staunton 2015) was named to the 2nd team as a reliever. Garrett pitched in the Cape Cod League this year, and went 0-2, 1.86, with 10 saves, 10 hits allowed, 13 walks, and 34 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings pitched.

Secondly, Zach Sterry (Waynesboro) was named in the honorable mention section at designated hitter. Zach was the 2016 Valley League MVP, and is no stranger to these pages, for sure. Much more will be posted on him later this offseason.

Thirdly, Will Reed (Purcellville) was named honorable mention at relief pitcher. Will was named All-Valley in 2016, and will also be mentioned in these pages later on.

Congratulations to all three!
