ATVL’s 3rd best starter in the 2016 Valley League season, New Market’s Terrell McCall, entered the Valley League last June in a similar position to many pitchers in the league each year- he hadn’t seen much time on the mound in the spring for his college team, Alabama State, in his freshman season, and he just needed time pitching. (He threw 4 1/3 innings for the Hornets.)
Not only did Terrell get the desired work, but he was easily one of the best pitchers in the league as well. Overall, he went 3-0, 1.60, with a 0.967 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and 8.9 K/9 in 6 starts and 39 1/3 innings. He finished 4th in the league in ERA, tied for 4th in K/9, and 5th in WHIP. Perfect Game named him the #20 prospect in the league, and the VBL named him 2nd team All-League.
Terrell’s best two games were on July 13, against Front Royal, and June 28, at Covington. Against the Cardinals, Terrell threw 7 innings and allowed 5 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, and notched 7 strikeouts. Against the ‘Jacks, he threw 6 shutout innings while allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 6.
Watch for Terrell to play a much larger role on the Alabama State staff in 2017!
John – a good, and obvious choice. Terrell was impressive in every outing. He has the potential go a lot farther down the path to the Bigs.
