The matchup today is between two righthanders…

  • Dillon Ortman is another pitcher who navigated the hitting-infused 2012 season. After spending two seasons in Auburn’s bullpen, Ortman came to Harrisonburg to start. He had a fantastic summer, going 7-2, 2.26, with a 0.895 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9, and 7.1 K/9 in 63 2/3 innings pitched. ATVL named him the 2nd best starter in the league. He returned to Auburn, started four games in 2013, but then broke through with 15 starts as a senior in 2014, going 9-5, 2.70, with a 1.11 WHIP in an even 100 innings pitched. He wasn’t drafted that June, but the Los Angeles Angels signed him as an undrafted free agent. He played in pro ball in “just” 2014, pitching at three different levels. He went 4-0, 4.00, with a 1.39 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, and 5.5 K/9 in 36 innings. He was released in early 2015.
  • Terrell McCall came to New Market in 2016 after appearing in only one game all spring for Alabama State. He got much needed experience in the summer season, going 3-0, 1.60 in 39 1/3 innings, along with a 0.967 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and 8.9 K/9. His stats were good enough to be named the 3rd best starter by ATVL. McCall started 11 games for Alabama State in 2017, but was moved to the bullpen for his last two seasons. Overall, he went 5-9, 5.13, with a 1.55 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9, and 8.6 K/9 in 114 1/3 innings. He was not drafted after his senior season, and has not played any pro ball (as of yet).
