According to ATVL, the #6 reliever from the 2016 Valley League season is Covington’s Mark Hendricks, the 6-1 righthander from King College!
Mark was awesome in his 15 relief appearances for the Lumberjacks. He went 4-0, 2.43, with 1 save, a 0.991 WHIP, 0.5 BB/9, and 8.1 K/9 in 33 1/3 innings. Among the pitchers that made the final cut for this relievers list, Mark finish 3rd in innings and 1st in BB/9 (2 walks!). He also threw 6 shutout innings in a start against Waynesboro in the playoffs on August 1st- and weirdly, walked 2 in 7 playoff innings, the same number he walked all regular season.
Mark spent his first two college seasons at Patrick Henry Community College. In 2014, he went 3-1, 2.31 in 23 1/3 innings, along with 4 walks and 12 strikeouts. He threw only 9 2/3 innings in 2015, finishing 0-2, 10.13. For his junior year, he transferred to King (joining Mitch Stophel, I may add), and went 3-5, 5.32 in 12 games, 10 of them starts. He led the team with 67 2/3 innings pitched, 3 wins, 44 strikeouts, and 4 complete games.
Congratulations on your excellent summer, Mark!
