Moving on to Double-A! Our hitter and pitcher of the year in Double-A is chosen from the Texas, Southern, and Eastern Leagues.

The past three years:

2016- D.J. Hicks (Luray 2009)
2015- Chad Oberacker (Fauquier 2009)
2014- Cory Spangenberg (Winchester 2010)

Hopefully the 2017 winner won’t suffer the same fate as the last two- both Hicks and Oberacker are now out of pro ball.

Rudy Flores Reno 2017Anyway, our 2017 Double-A hitter of the year is Rudy Flores (Haymarket 2010)! Rudy, also the 2014 full season A hitter of the year, played in 63 games and had 235 at-bats for Jackson of the Southern League last season. He hit 298/337/494, with 20 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, and a 12/64 BB/K ratio.

Others to consider:

  • Jacob Wilson (Luray 2009), for Springfield in the Texas League: 248/337/417 in 432 at-bats, with 20 doubles, 1 triple, 17 home runs, and a 50/97 BB/K ratio. Jacob was picked up by the Nationals in the Rule 5 draft this offseason.
  • Ryan McBroom (Haymarket 2011-12), both New Hampshire and Trenton in the Eastern League (he was drafted from the Blue Jays to the Yankees midseason): 247/325/395 in 486 at-bats, with 24 doubles, 16 home runs, and a 43/112 BB/K ratio.
