I’ll admit, Brilliant Reader, that I spend a little too much time surfing milb.com looking at former VBLers’ statistics. But every once in a while, I look up a player that I haven’t checked in on in a while, and I just say, “Whoa.” And then that guy is my focus for that day’s “article.”
So. Eric Campbell. (Eric played for the Luray Wranglers back in 2006.) He’s 31 years old, so he’s definitely not a “prospect” in the normal use of the term, but my goodness is he on a tear right now for Triple-A New Orleans.
I obviously haven’t checked his stats for a while, because when I looked this morning, this is what I saw: In his last 10 games, Eric is 20-40, with 11 runs, 8 RBIs, 1 home run, and a 5/5 BB/K ratio. This tear has raised his overall 2018 stats to 347/425/442 in 95 at-bats, with 14 runs, 20 RBIs, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, and a 13/21 BB/K ratio.
Eric has already spent quite a bit of time in the major leagues- 196 games, to be exact- but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets some more time at the highest level this season.
