In honor of the discussion (over on the Facebook page) about Jose Carrera’s unfortunate release from the Yankees’ minor league system, today’s focus is on his performance on July 1st, 2014, for the Covington Lumberjacks against the Front Royal Cardinals.
In the first game of that evening’s doubleheader, Jose (Covington 2013-15) went 4-4, with 3 runs, a walk, and a double. Jose was ATVL’s 12th best hitter in 2015, and he hit a combined 305/366/431 in 476 Lumberjack regular season at-bats. He also went 12-39 in two seasons in the playoffs.
Jose was undrafted after four seasons at Manhattan, but was signed by the New York Yankees as a free agent. He played in 41 games in the Gulf Coast League in 2017, and three more at the same level in 2018. The Yankees released him on June 26th.
