And the Valley League roars into the last day of June with 83 total runs scored in 5 games… even though the boxscores reflect “only” 82 (a run is missing in the Staunton-Waynesboro game).
Here we go- all five games played last night:
Results
- Front Royal 9, Strasburg 0
- Winchester 7, Purcellville 4
- New Market 11, Woodstock 8
- Harrisonburg 5, Charlottesville 2
- Staunton 18, Waynesboro 9 (The box shows that the Braves scored an astonishing 16 runs in the last three innings of this one- I would have liked to see that!)
Hitter of the Day
You just knew the HOD would have to come from this game, right? The HOD is, indeed, a hitter from the Staunton vs Waynesboro game. It’s Staunton’s Luke Jackson, from UNC Pembroke, who went 5-6, with 4 runs, 4 RBIs, 2 doubles, a home run, and a stolen base as well. Luke raised his slash lines to 321/361/446 in 56 at-bats this summer for the Braves. For Pembroke this spring, he hit 397/469/652 in 204 at-bats. Luke joins his college and summer teammates Seth Hartings and Trey Jacobs as a HOD at least once- the three of them now have four total awards.

Pitcher of the Day
Our pitcher of the day is the amazingly named Nicholas Beardsley, from Winchester and Point Park! (I mean- just look at that beard! I suppose a guy with his name has to have a beard, but still. Impressive.) Nicholas threw 7 shutout innings against Purcellville while allowing 2 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 5. He earned the win and a game score of 74. Nicholas is now 1-1, 4.69 for the Royals, with 20 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. At Point Park in 2018, he went 7-2, 2.28, with 78 K’s in 79 innings.
