On July 12, 2014, Strasburg’s Anthony Payne went 4-5 against Staunton, with a run, 2 RBIs, and home run. Anthony played for the Express in both 2013 and 2014, but 2014 was his better year, as he hit 336/390/516 and was named ATVL’s #9 hitter in the league (Gunnar McNeill was #1 that year).
Payne was drafted in the 30th round in 2015 by the Chicago Cubs out of West Virginia State. In 2018, he’s assigned to South Bend of the Midwest League, and has hit 280/321/360 in 50 at-bats, but also has been on the disabled list since late April.
Anthony now goes by Tyler (his middle name), by the way.
