On this date, July 13th, 2015, Charles Town’s Steven Ridings put on a show against the Front Royal Cardinals. Steven, who went to college at Messiah, threw 8 innings while allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk….. and 15 strikeouts. He didn’t get the support from his hitters, so he didn’t get the win, but his game score was a huge 80 (higher than any single start in the 2018 VBL season so far, to put it in context).
Steven ended up being named ATVL’s #2 starter that season, after he went 3-1, 2.19, with 60 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings. He was drafted in the 29th round in 2016 by the Seattle Mariners, and subsequently pitched in 19 games in 2016 and 2017. Oddly, he pitched at five different minor league levels in 2017- sounds like a tough year.
