With the rain coming down today, we’ll take a quick look at the playoff chase through Monday night:
| North | W | L | PCT | GB |
| Purcellville | 22 | 14 | 0.611 | |
| Front Royal | 21 | 15 | 0.583 | 1 |
| New Market | 20 | 17 | 0.541 | 2.5 |
| Winchester | 19 | 19 | 0.500 | 4 |
| Strasburg | 15 | 21 | 0.417 | 7 |
| Woodstock | 5 | 33 | 0.132 | 18 |
- Purcellville: 6 games left, clinched playoff spot, right now #1 seed
- Front Royal: 6 games left, 1 game behind Cannons, 1.5 ahead of Rebels, clinched playoff spot
- New Market: 5 games left, 1.5 behind Cardinals, 1.5 ahead of Royals. Won 3 in a row, 7-3 in last 10. The hottest team in the North, but has not clinched a playoff spot yet (1 win and/or 1 Strasburg loss will clinch a tie for a spot, though)
- Winchester: 4 games left, 1.5 behind Rebels, 3 ahead of Express. 2 wins and/or 1 win and a Strasburg loss will clinch a tie for playoff spot
- Strasburg: 6 games left, 3 behind Royals. The Express doesn’t need to win out just yet, but they need to win at least 4 of their last 6, and get some help to make the playoffs.
- Woodstock: 4 games left, eliminated from playoff chase for the 3rd season in row. Needs to win out to tie Rockbridge for lowest winning percentage since 2001 (at least).
| South | W | L | PCT | GB |
| Covington | 24 | 14 | 0.632 | |
| Charlottesville | 23 | 16 | 0.590 | 1.5 |
| Waynesboro | 22 | 18 | 0.550 | 3 |
| Staunton | 19 | 20 | 0.487 | 5.5 |
| Harrisonburg | 18 | 21 | 0.462 | 6.5 |
- Covington: 4 games left, 1.5 ahead of Tom Sox. Clinched top 3 seed.
- Charlottesville: 3 games left, 1.5 behind Jacks, 1.5 ahead of Generals. Clinched top 3 playoff spot.
- Waynesboro: 2 games left, 1.5 behind Tom Sox, 2.5 ahead of Braves. Clinched playoff spot.
- Staunton: 3 games left, 2.5 behind Generals, 1 ahead of Turks. The two teams are to play tonight; if the Braves win, they would clinch a tie for the 4th spot, and they would have to win one OR the Turks lose one to be in the playoffs for sure.
- Harrisonburg: 3 games left, 1 behind Braves. If the Turks beat the Braves, the teams would be tied with 2 games left for each. (Braves play Waynesboro and Charlottesville; Turks would play Charlottesville and Covington. Neither team has it easy!)
John – with VBL announcing end of regular season extended 2 days, to Sat. July 28th, and that playoff seedings will be based on the as of then records- the magic number has lost its usefulness. What with 5 more postponements tonight (July 24th), and plenty of bad weather forecasted for the 25th- it’s a distinct possibility that some teams won’t get 42 games completed.
Hey Dennis, do you know what the tiebreaking procedure is for the playoff seedings
