Our 9th best starter in the 2018 Valley League season, righthander Jake Hershman, played an important role for the Charlottesville Tom Sox’s run to the championship series, pitching crucial innings both in the regular season and in the playoffs.
The junior from Wofford proved to mix speeds well when ATVL was present, which was at least twice during the season. His stats look like this:
For pitchers on this list, he finished 10th in WHIP, and tied for 7th in BB/9. He was named the pitcher of the day twice by ATVL, and had three seperate games over the summer in which he threw 4 innings and did not give up a single run, and not even a hit in two of them:
- June 5th, against Purcellville: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K’s
- June 17th, against Harrisonburg: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K’s
- July 9th, against Front Royal: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Jake improved his statistics greatly from his freshman to sophomore year at Wofford:
Congratulations on your excellent summer, Jake!
