Our 7th best starter in the 2018 VBL season, Chance Hroch, also travelled all the way across the country to get to the Valley, and then excelled when he got here.
A native of Temecula, California, and a junior at New Mexico State, Hroch was the best pitcher in Strasburg by a pretty wide margin. Take a look:
Stras | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | BAVG | WIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 2.91 | 2 | 1 | 9 | 4 | 37.0 | 28 | 16 | 12 | 10 | 33 | 0.201 | 1.027 | 2.4 | 8.0 |
Of pitchers on this list, Chance finished 6th in innings pitched, tied for 10th in strikeouts, 7th in batting average against, 6th in WHIP, and tied for 7th in BB/9. His ERA was actually 3rd for league qualifiers, behind only Covington’s Evan McAndrew and Front Royal’s Gabriel Ponce. He was voted second team All-Valley at the end of the season.
Chance threw the 4th best start of the entire summer on July 18th against Charlottesville. He finished 8 innings and allowed only 1 hit, 2 runs (1 earned), walked 0, and struck out 4. His game score was 78, and he was named pitcher of the day for his efforts.
Chance also headed up to the Cape after the VBL season, where he pitched 3 innings with 0 earned runs for the Brewster Whitecaps.
He’s pitched exclusively out of the bullpen at school:
NMS | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2017 | 3.65 | 0 | 0 | 11 | 0 | 12.0 | 13 | 7 | 5 | 6 | 10 | 1.583 | 4.5 | 7.5 |
