Front Royal Coach Zeke Mitchum used his contacts to bring in a number of players from Arizona in 2018, including our 3rd best starter in the Valley League season, Arizona Western’s Ramon Miranda!
In his 5 starts for the Cardinals, Ramon was very difficult to hit. Of pitchers on this list, he finished 5th in ERA, tied for 8th in K’s, 2nd in batting average against, 3rd in WHIP, 6th in BB/9, and 4th in K/9; he was top 8 in all the important categories. Here are his stats:
FR | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | B/AVG | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 2.27 | 4 | 1 | 5 | 5 | 27.7 | 18 | 12 | 7 | 7 | 34 | 0.175 | 0.903 | 2.3 | 11.0 |
His best start was probably his first, on June 4th against Woodstock, when he threw 5 shutout innings, with 3 hits, 0 walks, and 10 strikeouts. He also threw very well on July 3rd at Winchester, when he finished 6 shutout innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. He was ATVL’s pitcher of the day twice.
The 5-foot-8 righty from San Luis, Arizona is heading into his sophomore season at Western. Here are his stats for his freshman year:
AW | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 3.10 | 6 | 2 | 15 | 11 | 66.7 | 73 | 30 | 23 | 18 | 57 | 1.364 | 2.4 | 7.7 |
That’s a very good freshman year; I’ll be curious to see how he pitches in 2019!
Congratulations, Ramon!
