Our 10th best reliever, Derek Tremblay, was able to ply his trade in front of friends and family last summer, as the VMI righthander is actually from Covington. The local boy did well, too, with the following line:
Cov | ERA | W | L | G | SV | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | BAVG | WIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2018 | 1.33 | 3 | 0 | 15 | 1 | 27.0 | 18 | 7 | 4 | 9 | 21 | 0.175 | 1.000 | 3.0 | 7.0 |
Play | 0.00 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 2.0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0.143 | 0.500 | 0.0 | 9.0 |
He finished 6th ERA among pitchers on this list, tied for 4th in innings pitched, and 6th in Batting Average Against. He was selected to represent Covington in the All-Star game, too, and threw a shutout inning.
Derek certainly hasn’t had to wait his turn, so to speak, to pitch at VMI; in his freshman year, he set the school record for most appearances by a first year player, with 28- the 9th most overall in school history. Then he pitched in almost as many games in his sophomore year, too:
VMI | ERA | W | L | G | SV | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | WIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2017 | 6.23 | 1 | 1 | 28 | 1 | 30.0 | 43 | 24 | 21 | 12 | 21 | 1.833 | 3.6 | 6.3 |
2018 | 5.86 | 2 | 2 | 24 | 0 | 27.7 | 36 | 23 | 18 | 7 | 16 | 1.552 | 2.3 | 5.2 |
Congratulations on your excellent summer, Derek!
