Brooks Wilson Danville Braves 2018

I must admit that this one was super hard to pick. You could make the case for any of three pitchers here… but the 2018 Rookie Level Pitcher of the Year is Brooks Wilson (Waynesboro 2015)!

Brooks pitched for Danville in the Appalachian League in 2018 after being a 7th round pick of the Braves that June. In 18 2/3 innings pitched, he went 2-1, 1.44, with 1 save, a 1.02 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9, and 8.2 K/9. He also pitched 9 solid innings for Rome in the South Atlantic League. Out of Stetson, Brooks pitched in 4 games for the Generals in ’15.

Others to Consider:

  • Karl Craigie (Charles Town 2014), in the Gulf Coast League: 2-1, 1.89, 14 1/3 innings, 0.84 WHIP, 1.3 BB/9, 10.1 K/9
  • Erne Valdes (Front Royal 2016), in the Arizona League: 1-2, 3.86, 2 saves, 1.04 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9, 13.5 K/9 in 28 innings
  • Eric White (Strasburg 2017), in the Gulf Coast League: 1-0, 0.82, 0.82 WHIP, 0.8 BB/9, 5.7 K/9 in 11 innings
  • Blake Whitney (Front Royal 2016), in the Arizona League: 2-3, 2.30, 1.41 WHIP, 4.9 BB/9, 10.6 K/9 in 31 1/3 innings
