Three former New Market Rebels are off to tremendous starts for Wallace, a Division-I Junior College in Alabama. All three played crucial roles in the Rebels’ push for the Valley League title just last summer.
First of all, the headliner, for sure, is Oraj Anu. According to ATVL, Oraj was the 6th best hitter in the 2018 season, hitting 358/424/634 in 123 at-bats, with 8 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, and even 8 stolen bases. Well, he’s back to business for Wallace so far after 38 at-bats, slashing a ridiculous 500/545/1.079, with 15 runs, 18 RBIs, 4 doubles, 6 home runs, a 5/7 BB/K ratio, and 3 stolen bases.
As important as Oraj is, Jared Shemper isn’t far behind. In four appearances, three of them starts, the lefty is a cool 3-0, 0.00, with 9 hits allowed, 4 walks, and 23 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. He has allowed only one unearned run so far this season. For the Rebels last summer, he went 2-1, 1.96, with 25 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings pitched.
Peyton Millirons is right with them (and has a sweet ‘stache, to boot). After 7 1/3 innings pitched, Peyton is 0-0, 0.00, with 0 hits, 3 walks, and 11 strikeouts. He has a no hitter going (a hidden one- all in relief, and over multiple outings, but still). For the Rebs, he went 3-2, 5.40, with 26 strikeouts in 25 innings… but threw 6 1/3 no-hit innings in the playoffs, with 13 K’s.
