Hats off to Kyle for the heads up on this one.
Former Woodstock River Bandit Brandon Beachy (2008) has signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco Giants.
Originally, Brandon was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Braves back in 2008. He worked his way to the major leagues by 2010, and spent time at the game’s highest level in ’10, 2011, 2012, and 2013, and two games with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015. He has struggled with injuries, however, ungoing Tommy John surgery in both June 2012, and March 2014.
He spent part of 2018 with the independent New Britain Bees in the Atlantic League, throwing 12 2/3 innings in 12 games.
While this is a lower-level signing, if Brandon can recapture the form that enabled him to strike out 169 major league batters in 141 2/3 innings in 2011, the Giants will surely find a place on the roster for him.
