Stamets Makes Major League Debut

Eric Stamets (Arizona Daily Star)It’s been a long road for this young man, but last night Eric Stamets (Haymarket 2010) made his major league debut for the Cleveland Indians!

A 6th round draft pick in 2012 of the Los Angeles Angels, Eric was traded to the Cleveland organization in July of 2015, and has spent the last five years in the minor leagues in Double- or Triple-A, waiting for the call.

Known as a top-notch fielder, Stamets received his callup to replace Francisco Lindor, one of the best shortstops in the game, who has a strained calf.

Eric started at shortstop last night, and struck out in both of his at-bats. He becomes the 223rd Valley Leaguer to make the major leagues.

That 2010 Haymarket team was very, very good- the squad finished 30-14 in the regular season, and lost in the semi-finals of the playoffs. The roster had two major league players (Tyler White is the other), and had five total men go into pro ball.

Congratulations, Eric!
