Spotlight on Wolfe, Studstill, and Higginbotham

Today we’ll take a quick look at three former Valley League pitchers- all of whom had an outstanding performance on Friday.

  • First of all, junior lefthander Hunter Wolfe (Strasburg 2017) threw 7 shutout innings for Dayton, while allowing 4 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 9. He’s now 4-3, 3.06, with a 1.064 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9, and 8.8 K/9 in 47 innings. Hunter was the Atlantic-10 Pitcher of the Week in late February.
  • Secondly, Florida Gulf Coast’s Mason Studstill (Harrisonburg 2017) threw 8 outstanding innings against Towson, allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and striking out 7. He’s been amazing all year: the junior righthander is now 4-0, 1.29, with a 0.810 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9, and 12.0 K/9 in 42 innings pitched. He’s given up 18 hits, 16 walks, and struck out 56 in those 42 innings. (Mason was the 6th best starter in the VBL in 2017.)
  • And last, but not least, we have senior lefty Austin Higginbotham (Charlottesville 2017), at Wofford, who threw a complete game against Mercer, allowing only 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and struck out 11. Overall, Austin is now 5-2, 3.17, with a 1.10 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9, and 8.4 K/9 in 48 1/3 innings pitched. Austin was named a preseason All-Conference player in the Southern Conference.

Nice job to all three!
