You knew it was coming- after reviewing the hitters and starting pitchers for the 2018 season, we also need to catch up with the top relievers. Stats are through Monday, April 1st (but this is not an April Fools post). A whole bunch of missed bats happening on this list….

The Top Five

  • Anthony Zimmerman (Purcellville), from Fordham, Anthony made the top ten prospect list of Baseball America as well. Anthony is 1-1, 0.73, with 2 saves, a 1.463 WHIP, 6.6 BB/9, and 12.4 K/9 in 12 1/3 innings pitched.
  • Trevin Eubanks (New Market), a transfer to Valdosta State from Southern Miss, is 0-3, 7.11, with 4 saves, a 1.737 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9, and 12.8 K/9 in 19 innings pitched.
  • Matt Blair (Front Royal), from Mercer, has only thrown 2 innings for Mercer so far this spring.
  • Shippenburg’s Dalton Oates (Purcellville) is a starter this spring. After six starts, he’s 0-2, 4.94, with a 1.575 WHIP, 4.9 BB/9, and 12.5 K/9 in 27 1/3 innings. (38 K’s in those innings)
  • Trent Sidwell (Winchester), from Illinois-Springfield, after 13 innings, is 0-0, 5.54, with a 1.231 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9, and 7.6 K/9.

The Middle Five

  • Old Dominion’s Hunter Gregory (Charlottesville) has appeared in 11 games covering 29 1/3 innings so far. He’s 2-1, 2.76, with a 1.092 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, and 13.2 K/9 (43 K’s!).
  • Antonio Menendez (Charlottesville), from Wake Forest, has thrown 29 innings in 15 games, all in relief. Overall, he’s 2-1, 2.79, with a 1.345 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9, and 12.1 K/9.
  • Trinity’s Matthew Thomas (Staunton) has given up 15 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings so far in 6 games (1 start).
  • Charleston Southern’s Cody Maw (Charlottesville). A Big South preseason All-Conference pick, Cody is 1-2, 3.63 in 8 games (7 starts) and 44 2/3 innings pitched. He’s 1-2, 3.63, with a 1.119 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9, and 5.8 K/9.
  • VMI’s Derek Tremblay (Covington) has given up 9 earned runs in 8 innings pitched so far.

The Last Five

  • Aron Solis (Waynesboro), from Texas Southern, SWAC preseason All-Conference, Baseball America’s #6 preseason draft prospect… after 7 games (6 starts) and 41 2/3 innings, is 3-3, 5.18, with a 1.535 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9, and 10.8 K/9.
  • Long Island’s Rob Griswold (Front Royal) is 2-3, 3.29, with a 1.387 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9, and 12.5 K/9 in 13 2/3 innings.
  • Miami’s Jeremy Cook (Staunton)- Jeremy made all three prospect lists after the VBL season. He’s pitched only 6 1/3 innings so far in 7 games, and has allowed just 1 earned run.
  • Florida’s Kirby McMullen (Charlottesville) has appeared in 4 games covering 5 innings, and has allowed 4 earned runs.
  • San Francisco State’s Joshua Romero (Covington) has appeared in 12 games covering 20 2/3 innings. He’s 3-0, 1.74, with a 1.159 WHIP, 1.3 BB/9, and 4.3 K/9.

As a group, the fifteen guys have 316 strikeouts in 283 1/3 innings pitched. Impressive!
