Spotlight on Battaglia, Zimmerman

I am amazed, day after day, at how well Valley League alumni are performing at their schools this spring. In fact, it’s difficult to choose whom to cover most days.

Well, today, we’ll look at two guys who played well… but there are many, many more listed below them…

  • Niagara’s Pater Battaglia (Covington 2018) hit 3 home runs in a doubleheader for the Purple Eagles. In game one, he went 2-3, with 2 home runs, 2 runs, and 5 RBIs. In game two, he went 2-4, with a home run, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. The 6-2 junior first baseman is now hitting 256/386/500 in 90 at-bats, with 4 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 home runs.
  • Fordham’s Anthony Zimmerman (Purcellville 2018), fresh off being the top reliever in the VBL last summer, threw 2 shutout innings yesterday, while allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 4. Anthony’s been super this spring, going 3-1, 0.52, with 2 saves, a 1.21 WHIP, 5.2 BB/9 and 14.6 K/9 in 17 1/3 innings pitched. Anthony’s a big guy and can throw hard. The draft is coming!
