Three former Valley Leaguers, all at different levels, are off to excellent starts to their minor league seasons, besides Michael Gigliotti, who was covered yesterday.

The three we’ll take a look at today are Randy Dobnak, Irving Lopez, and Jacob Wilson.

  • First of all, Dobnak (Front Royal 2015) was assigned to High-A Fort Myers in the Florida State League. He has started two games so far in 2019, and hasn’t given up a run yet! He’s 1-0, 0.00, with a 0.91 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9, and 4.9 K/9 in 11 innings pitched. If you would like to read more about Randy and the rest of the 2015 Valley League season, check this out. (Randy is mentioned several times in the book.)
  • Secondly, Lopez (Staunton 2016) has hit five home runs in his last four games! His season high is 6, set in 2018… so…. it looks like he’s well on his way to break that. In 11 games and 37 at-bats at Double-A Springfield, Irving is hitting 297/395/811. He has 4 doubles as well as those 5 home runs.
  • Lastly, former Luray Wrangler Jacob Wilson (2009) hit two home runs for Triple-A Fresno on Sunday, giving him four on the season so far after eight games and 27 at-bats. Overall, he’s at 407/500/889, with a 5/1 BB/K ratio and a stolen base. (His season home run high is 18, so he has a little farther to go than Lopez does.)

Great job to all three!
