Spotlight on Brait, Peek, and Weinberger

A surprisingly full slate of D-I college games were played yesterday, with seven former Valley Leaguers putting up good stat lines. Today, we’ll focus on three on them, with the others listed at the bottom:

  • Florida Gulf Coast’s Alex Brait (Waynesboro 2018) went 4-5, with 3 runs, a home run, a stolen base, and 2 RBIs. Alex is having a monster college season so far- he’s slashing 353/420/455 in 167 at-bats, with 39 runs, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 27 RBIs, and a solid 16/24 BB/K ratio. He leads his team in batting average, runs, and hits.
  • Former Strasburg Express (2017) Zach Peek, from Winthrop, threw a complete game shutout yesterday, allowing 6 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 8 to win his 5th game of the season. The former #1 starter is now 5-2, 3.79, with a 1.329 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9, and 9.8 K/9 in 61 2/3 innings pitched. He’s also currently a top 200 prospect for the upcoming draft, according to Baseball America.
  • Charleston Southern’s Cam Weinberger (Charlottesville 2018) threw 5 shutout innings yesterday, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 2. He’s now 3-3, 5.19, with a 1.501 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9, and 7.1 K/9 in 43 1/3 innings pitched.
