Former New Market Rebel Keven Pimentel (2017) fired a complete game in Tampa’s opening game in their Super Regional against Delta State yesterday.
Given the responsibility to get the Spartans off to a quick start in the best-of-three series, Pimentel did just that, throwing 9 innings and allowing 7 hits, 0 walks, and 1 earned run while striking out 5. He threw 117 pitches!
Keven raised his overall statistical profile to 12-2, 2.72, with a 1.088 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9, and 8.4 K/9 in 105 1/3 innings pitched. Nice job!
A 10-karat diamond gem by Keven Pimentel. I got to watch innings 7-9 and my appreciation of Head Coach Joe Urso increased as the pitch count passed 90, 95, 100, 105, etc. I’m still mystified by the “standard default” 100 pitch count limit (seemingly without reference to how effective the pitcher is at 95 or 97) in the Bigs. On air said it was Pimentel’s first CG of his collegiate career.
